When performed by experienced mim parts manufacturers,
Metal Injection Moulding offers a combination of features which
can translate to cost-saving benefits:
- DESIGN
FREEDOM
As the parts is formed by injection, there are virtually no
design restrictions. Actually, geometry complexity and intricate
shapes are required in order to appreciate the cost-effectivness
of the MIM process. However, there are some designing rules that
you can easily get from our Engineering Dept.
- REDUCE
PRODUCTION COSTS
Costly machining operations are reduced because of the high
geometrical complexity and tight tolerances that can be reached
with MIM. MIM is a typical near net shape parts manufacturing
process.
- CLOSE
TOLERANCES
The best tolerance range is ±0,3% of nominal dimension, with
a minimum of ± 0,04 mm for dimensions which are less than 3 mm.
The reduction in tolerances is not directly proportional to decreasing
dimensions and may depend on part shape, material, and process
requirements.
- HIGH
QUALITY SURFACE FINISH
Surface finish of MIM parts is approximately 1 µm, appreciably
better than most investment castings.
- HIGH
DENSITY PARTS
MIM
achieves densities up to 99.5%. Unlike conventional press and
sinter P/M, MIM components can be plated, coated, heat-treated,
just like wrought alloys.
